The Job

I think I'm going to stick with titling all my blogs "The {something...}" in a Seinfeld sort of way.
So I know I haven't blogged for over a month now and you may be wondering why.
Well I'm going to bring out the typical excuse that everyone uses for nearly everything, "I was super busy!"

In reality, was I too busy to type out a blog in 20 minutes? No.

Forgive me?

I was quite busy though, here is the summary:

  • I had two big projects to finish up for school.
  • I got a 4.0 in both of those classes!
  • I graduated with my BS in Computer Science and Systems.
  • I went on a 4 day wakeboarding vacation.
  • I started my new full time 8-5 job with the title of Software Developer
    • Which included filling out TONS of paperwork!!
  • And lastly my Birthday was June 16th so I went out with all my friends to celebrate all these things!

I have now completed two full weeks of my new job and I must say it's really quite nice! My co-workers are great people and it's a very friendly environment. I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer so far!

Boring!

Well, I seem to be having trouble organizing my thoughts enough to pick a topic today. Or even keep topics separated. So I won't! Instead this will be a short free writing exercise :) So I have two interviews today. One of them is my second interview with a company, and the other is an interview with a professor for a summer internship. I hope i do well with the prior, because it is a full time career position, but I really wouldn't complain too much about a paid internship either. I've been so addicted to these Arizona tea in a can drinks lately. Specifically the Diet peach tea which contains literally no calories or sugar, and it till manages to taste great! Over of the weekend I was up in Whistler, BC and I had to look everywhere to find my Arizona tea. Unfortunately no one had the diet peach tea! AAHHH!!! Ok now I'll give you a couple pictures I've taken in the last week with my phone. Enjoy.

All beginnings, have an end

This week is going to be a sort of sad week for me. Two of my all-time long running TV shows are coming to an end.

To start the week off, Stargate Universe will run its series finally tonight. Although Stargate Universe is only in its 2nd season, the Stargate franchise itself has been airing new episodes for the past 14 years, and yes I've seen them all. But to cut off this new series, which was radically different and interesting compared to the old SG1 and Atlantis series, only after two seasons is just such a waste of a great story. I really wanted to see where the series and its characters were headed in their involuntary exploration of the other side of the universe. I guess I'm left wondering.

This Friday also marks the day of the end, of the beginning really. Yes, Smallville's 2 hour series finally is here. After 10 years of watching Clark Kent grow up, he will (I assume) finally accept his destiny and put on his Superman tights and cape, aim for the skies and fly. Gough and Millar the creators of the Smallville series said when it began that Clark would never fly in the series. And to my amazement they stuck to their word on that one (minus a couple episodes where clark was under the influence of different types of kryptonite). His inability to fly represent his fear and insecurities, which must be overcome before he can accept his destiny. I for one am extremely excited to see how this comes about and on the bright side we all know how his story goes on. No cliff hanger here... Or will there be??? We'll find out Friday night!

The Interview

Last week I had my first real interview for a software engineering job. I was quite nervous, didn't know what to expect, way out of my league and well yeah I was kind of a mess. I spent the rest of the day and that night going over the questions they asked in my head and why I didn't say what I should have said and asked. I do feel like I was myself during the interview, and they definitely got to know me. So the question remains, will it be enough? Probably not, but it was a good experience and I definitely learned a lot. I should hear from them by the end of the week. Now it's time to start sending out my resume to more and more companies and let those interviews start piling up. Someone will take me!

I think I'll be sining up for linked-in soon: http://www.linkedin.com/

The Seattle Drizzle

Sometimes being a full time student who works on weekends can be cruel! By today last year, Seattle had 20 days that were sunny and above 60 degrees. This year, we've had one and that was last Saturday. One day to soak up some good sun and get that valuable vitamin D. But where was I? At the shopping mall, in my dark store, working. Then what does the weather hold for the next week?? Perhaps it's finally spring and the good weather is coming!

I guess not :(

But on the bright side I did get my seadoo launched and ready to go. Even took it for a spin around the lake, but it was super cold and I was in a thick jacket.

I also got some spend some quality time around the fire with my friends!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter!

Weekend of Disney Classics

Well last weekend I was incredibly swamped with homework and real work. I was able to meet up with a few friends on friday night, but Saturday and Sunday were booked. I only had a few hours here or there for breaks, so relaxing to a good movie or two was optimal. However I was unsure of what to watch (I've seen everything).

I decided to go with a classic Disney movie. Disney has been making a big effort in re-releasing it's old classics in the new 1080p BlueRay format, and I must say that watching Aladdin in 1080p was just stunning. Not only was it great to see this movie for the first time in many many years, but it was also like seeing a bran new movie. I noticed so many small details in the cartoon that I never had seen before on my VHS tape player. I finished the weekend off by watching Beauty and the Beast, but that one wasn't in 1080p. I really want to get around to watching The Jungle Book soon as well.

If you are looking for a great movie experience I really recommend purchasing an old Disney Classics on DVD or BlueRay and reliving some memories. They really are quality films, and worthy of being watched by adults too.

We Needed Some Sun!

At the mine Museum

This last weekend a few friends and I were fed up with all the rain in western Washington, so we decided to take a 5 hour drive over to Winthrop and stay at my families vacation home. As expected the weather was fantastically dry and the sun was out to play! On saturday we spent the majority of the day walking around downtown Winthrop, shopping at the little trinket stores and exploring the mine museum. We finished the day off by grabbing some grub and beers at the brewery in town. Just as we were leaving on Sunday, the rain began to fall. What perfect timing! If you've never been to Winthrop it is a very friendly town with lots to explore. http://www.winthropwashington.com/
